After all, as in Aesop\u2019s fable, &#8220;The Hare &amp; the Tortoise&#8221;, the creature\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">with the checkered shell gets to the finish line first, even though it is competing with the faster hare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Turtle<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (with the accompanying motto \u2018More Haste Less Speed\u2019) is based upon the concepts of\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">acceleration\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">deceleration<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Marshall McLuhan (1911\u20131980) and Paul Virilio (1932\u20132018) were among the few philosophers who analysed in depth the relationship between speed and media, outlining its implications in the fields of politics, aesthetics, ethics and life in general.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Canadian theorist was the first to speak about the \u201cvisual stress\u201d caused by the media (since the invention of printing), while the important French thinker Virilio pointed out that in the accelerating society in which we live, time is flattened and man\u2019s ability to think is reduced: \u201cIn today\u2019s world,\u201d to borrow a phrase from his book \u201cPure War,\u201d \u201creal time has no thought.\u201d In other words, there is a violence in the rapid dissemination of information that has not yet been understood, especially in our era when speed is now measured in nanoseconds and communication never stops.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Turtle aims at creating a space of thought and praxis, without, however, staying behind&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":8,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"give_campaign_id":0,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-3781","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"campaignId":"","post_mailing_queue_ids":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/3781","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3781"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/3781\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":13712,"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/3781\/revisions\/13712"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/theturtle.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3781"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
